Paula Broadwell is having an affair with David Patraeus, about whom she’s written a book described by Jon Stewart as prompting the question, Is Patraeus awesome or insanely awesome?
When Broadwell thinks her paramour is flirting with another woman, a veterans’ advocate named Jill Kelley, Broadwell sends Kelley anonymous emails that are described as “harassing.”
But Kelley has resources. A local FBI agent had pursued her, even sending her shirtless pics of himself, and so Kelley prevails upon this gentlemen “friend” to investigate. He obliges, referring the complaint to the bureau’s burgeoning cybercrime squad.
When the agent, who is likely a Republican, thinks the case is stalled, he suspects a cover-up to protect Obama. So he does what any chain-of-command-abiding G-Man would do, and alerts Eric Cantor, the majority leader of the U.S. House of Representatives. Cantor, in turn, alerts the FBI director, and the rest is history—or at least developing.
